Developer Commentary Video Series

Developer Commentary Video Series

Postby Blue66 » Sat Nov 27, 2010 4:28 pm

Hi guys!
A lot of people have problems with the difficulty of the game and maybe some others are interested in my comments on some sections of the game while I play through it. So I've made a couple of videos (and hopefully I have the time to play through the whole game) on the highest difficulty and talk a bit about the development and other crap :)

Part 01 - Iron Maiden, Baby!

Part 02 - Getting the Shotgun

Part 03 - Hell

Part 04 - The House of The Dead
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Swl_j2C1oGY

Part 05 - Alternate Fire
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQZYSjc_iBk

Part 06 - Hell Desert
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLOK872M9r8

Part 07 - The Marsh of Doom

Part 08 - Super Mario

Part 09 - Ice

Hope you can stand my German accent. If you have any comments, questions or critique, I am happy to read it and answer you asap.
Thanks

Re: [Video] Developer Commentary

I haven't YT account yet (because I don't see any benefits besides videos, but actually I don't have plans to send any), so I'll post my opinions here.

2nd video is good like your 1st video (this opinion is on 1st news of commentary videos). But 3rd is a bit worse, due to more improvisations (at least I felt it). Of course that's not mean it's a bad video. I can't wait for the next part. I hope you plan what you have to say more exciting (perhaps what I don't know :)) next time :)

PS: Just a question of total offtopicness: As I read your post of one recent topic. What a next game you're developing? Not asking for title directly, but for which will have a genre this game? Unless it's a sequel/prequel, remake/demake etc :P If top-secret, you can reply via PM to me or say nothing - surprises sometimes is better than spoil about everything now :P

Yes, it does! Yay! The best DC part by far. I've enjoyed your entire video, that's a big plus.

By the way, do you like gore films (including zombie movies)? Because if yes, along with retro platformers and other stuff you have the same mind like me :D

About shield: I don't think it's overpowered. This feature have saved my ass in the final boss through "Iron Maiden 2 HP Challenge" :P I can agree, that is used too often. I'm interested what game mechanics we will meet in your next game :)

Perhaps it will an big offtopicness at the end of post again. At first I say now these all only my minds, that means I don't force you to do this neither you become slot-machine of wishes/requests :P We can share our minds, can't we? :)
So, as you talked about next platformer, it reminded me about recent dream. I dreamed about From Primordial Egg (recently played as well) which was so... so advanced (including 8 hours of gameplay, high replayability and my favourite font, Joystix :P) that it could be the freeware hit like Iji or your GG2. Unfortunatelly now which decent features though, it's short so can be beaten about half hour. That's obvious with TIGsource competitions, after this it will go into forgotten (as I can say ;)). Sometimes I want to see in the future (as I said, not directly from you therefore forcing) dino-like game which I had similar on my dreams and perhaps blood/gore system like in... Primal Rage? :)

EDIT: (17 Dec 2010)
Well, after watching 8th and 9th DC, there are like always some notes from my site :P
At first, when you said about cherry between forest and north zone, in my case I guessed immediatelly there's something in this building. So I got this by first ride with boat.
In 8th, too bad you didn't get cherry in old mansion immediatelly after getting pizza maker. So well, you have to make trouble again to old mansion for cherry :)
I agree about with entire Mario franchise. These first games ftw. Games from today like New Super Mario Wii are obviously too easy, too much comic mischief and... no retro feeling at all.
About amount of ammo, even in 2HP Challenge it's very significant. By it makes the game more dynamic than "tactical", and I like this a lot.
BTW, what you said at 13rd minute in 9th DC, I feel so being stalker by writing this. Because unlike other people in this forum I'm very active here. Also I guess, you're annoyed you see posts only from person :P

PS: Question by curiousity: ain't GunDude a reference to yours "standard" outlook in real life? I wonder about this since 1 month :)

EDIT2:
Screw opinions of whining children! Keep still play-style and difficulty like in 90's ;D
But seriously, don't care about them much. Even Iron Maiden with 2HP is much easier than entire route in Super Mario Bros, I mean without cuts ;)
This video now made too much attention for me to post, for long time finally :D It was hilarious and not boring generally. About difficulty when in next game, you can make just even 5 difficulty grades, so almost everyone can enjoy as equals for its skill. Unless I don't understand something?
About Frozen Hell - with combination of awesome BGM and background it's my favourite level. Oddly and sad is that it's the only enviroment where it's not in Random Mission Levels at Endless Mode.
That's all I guess. I won't write too much because obviously most of people don't like too much to read. And by the way, Paul - congratulations for the Cacoward :)

Hey, thanks for making these. I used these as a kind of walk-through when I was stuck, and it was interesting to hear the commentary in the meanwhile.

Also, what is this, about another platformer?

Finally, thanks for making the game (and forum) in English, I appreciate it! :D

The two ''surprises'' ought to remain ''secret'', no? :) He told us that there will be some secrets in the game -> and that included Scythe (the secret character) and the Endless Mode (by the way, hoping that this time I'll solve my problem connected to the 10 cherries - I would like to try it, it could prove addictive :) )

The 10 cherries I mentioned are the key to unlocking Scythe (the secret character) and if I manage to figure out when I'll have all of them, then I'll be able to play the Endless Mode :D
